Real Madrid star forward, Cristiano Ronaldo, is demanding the Spanish giants pay him 'one Euro' more than Lionel Messi before he can pen his signature to a new deal at the club.

Reports originating from Spain suggest the Portuguese international wants his new contract to reflect his status as the best player in the world - and that means earning above the money Messi gets at Barcelona.

Messi recently signed a new contract at the Nou Camp that will see him collect a staggering 40m Euros per season (N17.7bn).

Los Blancos have opened negotiations with the Ronaldo managers about improving the terms of his existing deal which runs until the summer of 2021.

Ronaldo currently earns 30m Euros (N13.3bn) annually by Real, which puts him third on the list of the biggest superstars in world football.

Messi's new deal puts him just ahead of the 36.4m Euros-a-year Neymar is on at Paris Saint-Germain.

The report believes that Ronaldo is looking to be recognised as the biggest name in the game by getting Real to agree to the token of one Euro above Messi's deal.

Ex-Manchester United star Ronaldo believes he is the best attacker on the planet, and is citing the fact he was awarded the Fifa Best accolade last year.

His ability to find the back of the net shows no sign of letting up, having scored an amazing 21 goals in his last 11 matches for the club.
